Val di Noto

This geographical area of south east of the Island of Sicily is dominated by the famous Limestone Iblean plateau, extending from Siracusa onto Ragusa, Catania and Caltanissetta. After an enormous earthquake, all towns of Val di Noto, such as Caltagirone, Militello in Val di Catania, Catania, Modica, Noto, Palazzolo Acreide, Ragusa and Scicli were rebuilt in what came to be known as the Sicilian Baroque style. Due to several examples of late Baroque, the UNESCO listed Val di Noto as a World Heritage, representing the culmination and final flowering of Baroque art in Europe. Focal point of Val of Noto are is the same named town, a tourist attraction on account of its fine Baroque architecture and the great wine production started in the last decades, turning this area into a cultural, gastronomic and historic reference for real travellers.
